The
Szechuan Rupee
The Indian
Rupee was very common and respected in Tibet and in the
trade between Tibet and Szechuan province as well as in
the Sino-Indian-Burmese-Tibetan border trade. To avert the
influence of British India in these regions the Chinese
governement minted from 1902-1942 the socalled Szechuan
Rupee, which in design, size, and weight was similar to
the Indian Rupee. The Chinese/ Szechuanese Rupee however
soon varied in it's silver content. It was minted probably
close to 14.000.000 times.
